City of Beaufort Redevelopment Commission
The City of Beaufort established the Beaufort Redevelopment Commission to renovate, revitalize and regenerate distressed areas of Beaufort. The Redevelopment Commission's mission is to lead a coordinated strategy of redevelopment and design, strengthening the City of Beaufort as:
- The heart of economic development for Northern Beaufort County
- A prosperous place for business and institutions: and
- An attractive urban environment for residents and visitors.
The Beaufort Redevelopment Commission is charged with researching and recommending redevelopment projects within the City of Beaufort; coordinating, reviewing, recommending redevelopment plans for projects to City Council; facilitating negotiations necessary for the execution of redevelopment plans; and overseeing project implementation.
The Team for the Lafayette Street Project include Brad Bowden and Lance Gooding of Gooding Contractors, Inc. and architect Eric Brown of Brown Design Studio.
Gooding Contractors co-owners Lance Gooding and Brad Bowden both come from backgrounds in family owned and operated General Contracting Companies and both bring their grandfathers' and fathers' skills and values of honest and personal involvement to the construction process. In 2003, Lance and Brad combined their resources to focus on commercial and residential construction projects in the Beaufort area.
Eric Brown's firm specializes in urban planning, commercial, multi-family and civic architectural design. They also have significant experience with architectural review, coding and developing architectural imagery with a strong commitment to New Urbanism and a traditional design.
